Freetown - Free land

Freetown is settled!

We have launched an initiative to assist new players joining us here on Independence. Starting up is hard, and wrought with failure, and sometimes fatal. The last thing some new-comers may want, is to struggle to survive, while getting the necessary skills to build and farm, and sustain themselves.

As part of our Alliance, we have procured some land, for all to use, new or old. The point of this land is not to be a villagers on it, but a citizen of Independence, complete freedom and safety, without the cost of land.

Aggressive Animals?
If you want the protection of a templar, a building without non-deeded-decay and access to water, you can come to Freetown, and build your shack or shed here. You may even plan out a little bit of farm if you want, go ahead...

Safety and Security
Just note that there are risks. Everyone is free to pick things up, build and walk away. Therefore, make sure your house, shed or shack is locked.
Furthermore, if you create a farm, safe-pen it, by making sure that the only way in, is through your locked house. That way you can control access, and don't need anyone else to help.

Stay long, short, or not?
If you plan to leave, or not come back, please destroy your writ. This will save us an hour of bashing it down :)

If you plan to stay, welcome. Your home contents are safe. Enjoy the area, and stay as long as you want.

Where?
You can find us on the Independence map ( http://wurm.dhcd.co.uk/map/ ) at 38X, 33Y, just north of Springton. Leave Freedom Market to the east, and then either go through the Dragon Fang tunnel, or via the coast. We are on the road, after Dragon Fang market.

The area is more or less flat, but some minor terraforming may be required, which can help you get digging skills up.

Anyone who believes in this cause, please help us with upkeep at the token, it would be appreciated if you can drop in 20 or 50 coppers :)

See you there.
Marlon

Note
PERMISSIONS: these will not change a lot, but will change, as we learn to manage the land better for everyone.

Coat of Arms and the promised pictures

Yesterday, we announced some general news and promised some pictures.
Today, we can show you.

Firstly, the completed workshop and Demon's Rest (in the back), with full fire force on the oven and forges.

Now, for the exciting part. The bulk dumping of dirt piles into the Inner Sea, paying off...
These were taken just before Meerkat broke through the surface.

And here it is, dry ground, new land. Well done Excavator Meerkat.

Last but not least, after some deliberation, our Coat of Arms (it may change slightly, but this is very close to our finalised version).

Simply explained:

  • The horse-head/mare denotes our animal husbandry, settlement name and pride.
  • The Sickle and Sword denotes labour/forestry and hunting/self-reliance.
  • The paw prints denotes sovereignty and guidance for members.
  • The wolf-head signifies union/federation (pack-behaviour) and respect for our animals.
  • The shield colours symbolises green: our land, and blue: Freedom Isles, with a diagonal line both denoting our abode on the coast and on a hillside.

A Brisk Outcry

The village is busy, and life is moving fast. Winter is on our doorsteps now. Therefore, we cannot make a big news update today.

To note some recent happenings and progress:

  1. Meerkatjie's new land project is underway. Many thousands of piles of dirt have been dumped into the Inner Sea (just south of Mare's nest) and is now out of the water. She will terraform this into a her planned island.
  2. Marlon's workshop and the Demon's Rest (more later) has been completed.
  3. Minor road fixing on deed, vineyard levelling and clean-ups are ongoing.
  4. Dangron has not been seen for some time. We hope he is ok, and enjoying travel instead of neglect! Come back soon sir.
  5. We are in search of Champion Dogs. Urgently. Contact us please.
  6. Marlon created a rare forge, which has been installed as a second forge in the workshop.

Pictures will follow later, stay tuned wurmians.

Marlon's Workshop is underway

Very recently the construction of a new building commenced. Marlon's workshop. This is a vague name, but it has a dedicated purpose. Construction, improvement and storage of manufactured items, cooking of meals and repairs & storage of Marlon's personal tools.

The 'shop will have a fire room in the entrance, where a forge and oven has been installed. The other areas are for storage, and carpentry.

The frontal area already received some flooring and roofing, in the form of hand-made pottery bricks and shingles. This is a hardship in itself, sourcing clay, shaping bricks and baking them... but well worth it.

The Order wants every villager to feel free to do what they have to do, to be comfortable and productive. A safe place to keep things, and a warm area to work in during the winter months.

In other news, Meerkatjie's vineyard levelling project is still underway. It is a massive task, and thousands of dirt piles are being moved from this site every day. The output dirt of her project, feeds directly into another massive terraforming project, but more about that later.

Tanning And Farming

Olive season is here! Harvest, parse and burn those off-deed lamps. Remind your templars to keep them up, by refuelling your off-deed lamps with olive oil...

Some news

With the foundation of all new settlements, basic infrastructure is always a problem. We were running out of food, and producing little meals was not the answer. Therefore, I cleared an area to be used for food and cotton farming. For now, it is tiny, and only has the minimums we need to survive. It will become more, later, when I can tend to it properly.

In the top-right corner of this image, you can see the land caving in. This is Meerkatjie's super earth moving skills at work. Soon, this whole right level will drop down, and possibly become the most organise wine producing, stamina boosting vineyard we have seen.

Secondly, we have a new villager amongst us. Dan the Tanner. He was given a plot of land, in a terrible state, and he is in the process of cleaning up and settling in. His workshop and living quarters are completed, and looking neat. Once he is up and running, you can visit him for your leatherworking needs.
