Fence Construction nearing the end.

After gaining a lot of body strength in destroying the high quality low-stone walls that was scattered everywhere, iron fence construction commenced. We are on day 3, and as far as the animal pens go, almost done. About 10-15 sections of fence is left.

Time is a luxury, destroying takes a long time, and building is an effort. Therefore, StorageBin Co supplied us with some bricks and mortar, and Greenwood supplied us with a large batch of fence bars (about 40) to supplement our dwindling supply.

By tomorrow, the animal area should be completed.

What does this mean for the rest of the fences? Well, we will still use low stone walls where they are feasible (and/or cosmetically acceptable). Iron fences will continue to be erected over time where they make sense, or have decayed to the point of crumbling away, for example at the top areas where the homestead and workshops will be built (that is another project waiting to happen).

Finally, an attempt to mine some quick iron ore, turned out to be a bust. The entrance to the great Mare's Nest mine, collapsed, with an iron vein. Therefore it could not be opened again. An alternative entrance had to be tunneled to the right (which also required some road modification). Please pay no attention to the ugly entrance at this time, it will be rectified.

News about an available plot, and Projects.

I think it is time for us to consider getting a quiet, reserved newcomer (or better, returning veteran that wants to live in a village) to join us. I am not in the business of "recruitment" per se, but think it would work out well to have another face in local range. Please see the recruitment post forums or contact Marlon for information.

Some boilerplate:

  • Freedom, we won't ask you for much (perhaps picking a few sprouts now and then, or helping with repairs)
  • Your own section of land for rent (if you can afford 10 or 30 or 50c that is great, if not, we can arrange something easy)
  • Protection from an on-deed rare tower, a second nearby tower and our spirit templar.
  • Free to build your own place inside your personal zone, and do as you please with that area (farm, etc)
  • No invasive behavior. We like living our lives, we won't bug you, or chat all day if you don't like it.
  • Assistance with getting to know the game.
Some rules
  • Permissions will start from minimums, while we all learn to trust each other. This is no biggy, just an initial formality.
  • Even if there is access to someone's bin of gold, does not mean you can have it, likewise we won't touch your personal stuff either
  • If you leave, please hand over the writ. Destroying a building is hard work.
  • Limited land means no wasted time. Please don't join us if you're planning to be around very infrequently or rarely.
  • As time goes, restrictions will lift and more things will come. I have expanded settlement territory before just for villagers.
  • Keep your bin and gate keys safe, we want villagers to be responsible for their own pens and property.
Ongoing Projects

  • Road improvement by Meerkatjie.
  • Decorative amendment to the road and entrance
  • Refencing of the main pen areas.
  • Construction of workshops, kitchen, homestead.
  • Refencing of the Olive plantation
  • General settlement road and paving fixups

Road Reconstruction

Meerkatjie is working on digging up the old slabs, and putting in a lot of effort in rebuilding the road leading up to our gate and docks.

The narrow, diagonal roads are diffiult to travel on by foot and horse, not to mention wagons. The designers of the road clearly had very low skillsets, or a crippled budget.

Please bare with us while we dig up and rectify the matter. You will experience a flatter, straighter road when this is completed. Do take care, as the lavender hedges may have lots of bees in them.

Any dirt we can find, will go towards this project for the next few days.

As always, keep an eye on our projects. The same items still stand from the last news release:

Projects, Duties, Work

Members of the Order,

Failing finding members willing to live with us, assisting with the following, we will have to do all of the needed projects ourselves. We have faith that assistance would befall us.
The following duties and projects are clear now:

  1. Green - Grass replanting, lawn trimming, packed dirt cultivation.
  2. Fence - Rebuilding, repairing, replanning and changes to the currently decayed and poorly planned fence system.
  3. Rock - Iron ore mining, rock shard mining and brick cutting for project Fence and the homestead of Marlon & Meerkatjie.
  4. Stockyard - The building of a yard and buildings, to save our resources and food. (completed by Marlon)
  5. Olive - Maintaining the northern border olive plantation, sprouting, pruning and care until Marlon can regain time to take back this task.
  6. Paving - General, and trivial fixes to the roads inside and around the settlement. We want members and travelers to have ease when passing us by, or passing through.

Please inquire about our rules and recruitment conditions. If you could help with these tasks, we will provide you with a little bit of our land to live and thrive on, as you see fit, freedom and security.

New beginnings. 1051

Dearest Travellers and Members.

It is the twelfth day of the Leaf starfall, 1051.
That means, that for a very, very long time, The Settlement Token has not been updated.

A lot happened, but to condense it, Plattekloof has been disbanded.
We have moved on to new beginnings, and this newsletter will keep providing you with updates.

Just north of Dragon Fang mountain, lies the jagged parts of the Inner Sea, and on our kingdom map, at 33X, 26Y you will find The Order of the Mare's Nest.

There is already information available here: http://www.wurmpedia.com/index.php/Settlement:The_Order_Of_The_Mares_Nest

Raw land, raw mines, and nothing but the decayed remnants of a settlement once thriving remains. Marlon is rebuilding, Meerkatjie is digging. Things will shape up, eventually, become structured, beautiful and powerful, once again. For now, not much information can be divulged. Our recruitment is extremely limited and secretive (the plans and what we have available to us, is too risky to share right now), but more later.

From this post onwards, we will be referring to The Order of the Mare's Nest as "the settlement".

In the next post, the projects and available duties will be highlighted.
